¿Tu café ya no sabe igual? Tal vez lo estás guardando mal

Does your coffee not taste the same anymore? Maybe you're storing it wrong.

We know there's nothing like a cup of coffee with an intense aroma and pure flavor. But often, as the days go by, that coffee we love so much begins to lose its essence. Why does this happen? And more importantly, how can we prevent it?

Here we share some tips to keep your coffee as it deserves—fresh, aromatic, and full of life—from the first cup to the last.

1. The silent enemy: the air

Oxygen is one of the main factors affecting coffee. Once it comes into contact with air, coffee begins to oxidize, which reduces its flavor and aroma.

The solution?
Store it in an airtight container . Preferably, one that isn't transparent (to keep out light) and has a tight seal. If you can use a container with a one-way valve, even better.

2. Avoid light, humidity and heat

Although it may seem obvious, many people store coffee near the stove, on the stovetop, or in a nice-looking jar. But light, humidity, and heat also accelerate its deterioration.

The ideal is to save it in:

  • A dark place (such as a closed cupboard or drawer).

  • A cool, dry place (no refrigerator, that's a myth!)

3. Ground or whole bean coffee?

If you enjoy coffee with all its nuances, we recommend always buying whole beans and grinding only the amount you intend to use. When ground, coffee releases essential oils and aromatic compounds... and if it's not used immediately, it begins to lose them.

Pro tip: Invest in a good manual or electric grinder, it's totally worth it!

4. Freezing coffee: yes or no?

There's some debate about this. If you bought a large amount of coffee and aren't going to use it soon, you can freeze it only if you seal it well (vacuum-sealed or in a very airtight container). But once you take it out, don't put it back in. The temperature change and condensation can damage its profile.
